narrative design

I love telling stories. Transporting people to fantastical places, meeting intriguing characters, and engaging imagination. A majority of my narrative design interweaves puzzles throughout, positioning players at the heart of the action. But, ultimately, it comes down to connecting with a new world dripping with emotion and life that propels me to see what’s around the next corner.

Audio Escape Adventures

In April 2020, with the world newly shut down and the physical locations of Trapped Puzzle Rooms temporarily closed, I designed our first Audio Escape Adventure: an online narrator-driven experience that blended escape rooms and one-shot roleplaying sessions together. Over the next 11 months, I released 8 experiences with Trapped Puzzle Rooms, which were played by tens of thousands of people around the world. They were a much needed escape, allowing friends who were unable to see each other in person get together and experience a story told in a fantastical environment.

These games focused heavily on exploring the strengths of these games - escape room-style experiences that weren’t restricted by the limitations of space or physics and capitalized on the imagination of its players. As we released subsequent experiences, I learned how to best utilize verbal narration and this imaginative medium to guide players through the world, giving them subtle clues and nudges in the right direction.

I am currently the resident designer of the Reality Escape Convention (RECON), designing and running Escape from Escape Island in 2021, The Shop of Theseus in 2023, and B.L.O.T. in 2025. During a playtest with the RECON committee for Escape from Escape Island, one of the participants gleefully said “this was easily the best money we’ve ever spent.”
